Dave Meijer (1955) is a painter for whom the painting process is anything but easy. Step by step, the image is wrested free from the material. The painter is constantly correcting, adjusting, removing paint, sanding it away, and applying new layers. It regularly happens that the painting becomes stuck in the paint. The openness is then lost, and the process starts over again.

Endlessly, he searches for the ultimate image. In doing so, he strives for the painting to be true only in itself, deriving its justification from its relationship to the everyday environment in which he lives and works.

All of his works give the impression of being built from imperfections, from unequal parts rubbing against one another — comparable to how land, sky, and water, though dissimilar, grate against each other. A painting must never be entirely finished; there must always be something still in prospect.
